Skincare routine for dry, sensitive skin

Khiel Precious Flores

Having a dry and sensitive type of skin is not easy. Most of the time, I can even feel the itchiness on my face and that eternally tight feeling. I wish they were the only issues I had with my skin, though. However, my skin is sensitive, too. Sometimes, when the weather is too hot, I wake up with red itchy spots all over my face, and when the weather is cold, I still wake up with red itchy bumps on my face. It can take up to two days to heal and might even leave dark marks on my worst scenarios.

After so many trial and errors, my recent skincare works best for me so far. Just a disclaimer that whatever may work for me may not work for you. That's why it is vital to find the perfect skincare for your skin type.  Today, I will talk about my simple skincare morning routine. Through this action, I show myself that I love her and I care for her. We all have different ways to show our self-love; I just thought of sharing my routine in case you need some guidance for the basics!

When I wake up in the morning, I drink some water and go straight to the bathroom. I wet my face with running water and wash it with my holy-grail, the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser. I am using this product for how many years now, and this is my personal favorite. Since I have dry skin, water would be the best one to use in cleansing my face, but of course, that wouldn't be enough for me. I am happy to have found a cleanser that feels like water but better. I pat it gently to my face and then wash it off with running water. Sometimes, I air dry after washing my face, but I just simply pat it dry with a clean tissue whenever I'm running out of time.

After that, I use Nivea 3-in-1 Micellar Caring Cleanser to act as a toner. Micellar is a gentle cleanser that doesn't irritate my face at all. Unlike other toners or cleansers, you can feel a sting upon applying, but for this product, same with the cleanser that I use, it just feels like water! What I do is I just pour the right amount of Nivea Micellar to my face and then gently pat it. I only use it with cotton if I need to remove any makeup product on my face. But, most of the time, I just pat it dry to my face.

Beauty isn't pain at all, is it?

Then, I use Nature Republic's Aloe Vera Soothing Gel Mist; this product brightens my dull complexion and helps my skin stay refreshed and healthy. Just four sprays, and my skin feels softer! Literal magic! After spraying, I pat the product gently on my skin and then wait for it to dry.

Fun fact: even though I have dry skin and moisturizers are recommended, I don't really use any. After several tries of moisturizers from different brands, I just ended up having breakouts. So, I just skipped moisturizing my face. Hence, I need to make sure that all the products I will use are enough to keep my skin hydrated.

Lastly, I never skip sunscreen; you shouldn't, too! I use Nivea Sun Protect and Moisture with SPF 50. This sunscreen offers long-lasting moisture and sun protection. Whether I will go outside or not, I never skip sunscreen (maybe sometimes!) but, it is essential to protect our skin from harmful UV rays and sun exposure! Sunscreen is my best friend!

And then, I am perfectly ready for whatever my day brings!

If I could give you some other tips, it would be to drink lots of water, avoid touching your face, direct sun exposure and of course, especially with the pandemic, always use alcohol!

Well, as for me, Taking care of ourselves should not be considered a luxury. Self-care is self-love, and as for me, I take care of myself by developing skincare that works best for my skin. Know that clear and glass skin might be everyone's dream, but having textured skin is completely normal! Don't forget to look in the mirror and see the most beautiful woman to ever exist.

You are wonderfully made.
